Maya Riviera Spa - Healing Through Water

At our Mexico resort spa, we practice unique therapies combining ancient traditions and modern health science. The 22,000-square-foot Thalasso Center & Spa is the first of European Thalasso luxury spas in North America and is a temple of healing and rejuvenation for the body, mind and soul.

The ocean is the source of all life, with seawater containing all the elements that are fundamental for every life form. Thalassotherapy is the therapeutic use of seawater, marine algae and marine mud in various treatments for the body.

At our luxury Mexican resort, the spa's Thalasso therapy incorporates the use of comfortably warm seawater with its living organisms to reload the body with minerals and trace elements which are absorbed through the skin by a process of osmosis.

The word "Thalasso" comes from the Greek word meaning "ocean," explaining the literal meaning of the word Thalssotherapy - therapy from the ocean. Natural salt water taken at a certain depth from the bottom of the ocean and its marine elements such as seaweed, thermal clay, plankton and phytoplankton are some of the indispensable elements that are used in Thalassotherapy.

Thalassotherapy itself dates back to ancient times and numerous testimonies of its use can be found in Greece and Rome, where it was developed and spread to other countries. In the 20th century, research conducted by a number of medical institutions proved the effective qualities of this therapy.

Applying the ancient regimen of the curative benefits of the sea, the Thalasso Center offers an extensive menu of treatments featuring seawater, marine algae and mineral rich mud. Fresh seawater that has been heated to body temperature is used in a variety of therapies. Modern Thalasso applications enhance stress reduction, weight loss, anti-cellulite, muscle, joint healing and more. Paraiso's luxury spa in Mexico uses only Thalgo products from Europe and all the therapists are trained and certified specialists in Thalassotherapy.

Our Mexico resort spa also offers a beachside exercise center, fitness classes, yoga and a large saltwater hydrotherapy pool for treatments or for just lounging around and enjoying the surrounding scenery. You can also experience the Mayan healing ceremony of the "Temazcal" at our Maya Riviera spa. This ancient ritual is a traditional steam with herbal essences, held with a Shaman who guides you through the various stages of this unique and unforgettable experience.

Thalasso therapy is mainly recommended for the following conditions:
